I am quickly falling in love with online magazines and the convenience that they offer. What do you love most about having a virtual magazine?
Kelly Lyden: Launching a digital magazine was the next logical step for The Party Dress. We have been inspiring readers daily on our blog for almost 3 years now, however I really wanted to give our readers and fans a more in-depth creative resource. Thus, TPD Magazine was born. The digital version was received so well, that we also offer a luxe, glossy, printed version now. It’s the perfect resource to store away and revisit when party planning in years to come.
I adore your paper collection. Which design is your favorite?
Kelly Lyden: Thank you so much! You know, my “favorite” changes on a daily basis! I love all of the mod patterns we use for adult parties, such as bridal and baby showers, special birthdays, etc. But one of my favorite challenges is for kids parties. With characters such as Thomas the train, Elmo, Cookie Monster, etc. being so popular with toddlers, these themes are incredibly popular. I have to get really creative when designing for these themes, to offer parents a stylized, non-character design that appeals to them, but also to their character-loving kids!
If you could give one piece of advice for entrepreneurial women, what would it be?
Kelly Lyden: Follow your instincts. Listen to what your gut tells you and MAKE IT HAPPEN.
Just for fun, what is your most loved dessert?
Kelly Lyden: Key Lime Pie!
What task do you loathe?
Kelly Lyden: Lately, it’s book-keeping! My business has grown SO quickly over the last 2 years, that simple reporting takes a big chunk out of my week now and I would much rather be designing paper goods or styling a photo shoot!
If you could plan a celebration for anyone, who would it be and why?
Kelly Lyden: I have the most fun planning kids parties – I love all of the child-friendly details, but using adult design concepts to create them. So I would probably choose one of my favorite celebrity moms, such as Reese Witherspoon, Gwyneth Paltrow, or Tori Spelling to name a few.
When it comes to frosting, do you favor buttercream or whipped?
Kelly Lyden: I’m definitely a buttercream girl!
