I had a fig for the first time last summer. Before that, my exposure was limited to store brand fig newtons. But since I was first exposed to real fig flavor, I’ve been obsessed. So when I found this Honey Roasted Fig Ice Cream recipe, I had to dig out my ice cream maker and go to town! This ice cream is as delicious as it is pretty. Jennifer, the creator of the recipe and founder of Delicieux, roasted her figs to give them a sweet, complex flavor. Once the figs cooled, she opened up the flavor even more with a little bit of vodka. Apparently vodka is also her secret ingredient for keeping home made ice cream soft and scoopable (who’d have thought?). The recipe, and the blog post that goes along with it, makes creating your own flavors of artisan quality ice cream seem easy! I am beyond excited to show off my new ice cream making skills this summer. But with the versatility of so many flavors, why would I limit myself to just the summer? I’m thinking ice cream may become my year round obsession.
