Hi everyone! Brittany from Edible Details here!
It’s been a long time since I was last here! With a new baby on board this year (AKA: Newest little assistant at Edible Details!), we’ve gone through a lot of changes, and I’m finally back on track and ready to crank up the monthly tutorials here at BFFF. How exciting to get to start back up with a Christmas one!
This is my all-time favorite time of the year. The whole month of December just seems to hold a little bit of winter magic that, combined with a lot of Christmas music, glitter and hot cocoa, it’s enough to keep me in the Christmas spirit for the whole month! We all need a little whimsy to our Christmas, and if it’s edible then it’s all the better right? So I’m excited to share my “Whimsical Fondant Elf Hat” tutorial – take your own spin on it, have fun and if you care to share pictures of how yours turn out, I would love to see them!
Shape 2 oz. of green fondant into a tall cone shape. Bend and curve the tip to add a whimsical look. Place on top of cupcake.
Cut a 1 1/4″ x 6″ strip of bright red fondant. Using a 1 x 1″ square cutter, cut out triangles across one side of the strip. To ensure an even cut, cut only up to the 2 corners of the square on the cutter.
Wrap band around the base of the hat and slightly bend each top outward.
Using a paint brush and water, wet the tip of the hat and the tip of each point on the rim. Roll out green fondant balls to add to each point. Press with care to keep from falling off.
Roll out beige fondant and use the bottom of a medium sized heart cutter (Aprox 2.5″-3″ tall) to create a tall triangle. Fold bottom 2 corners toward the center, and then fold a second time toward the center. Pinch to hold. Place on top of cupcake.
