We absolutely love apple season, whether it’s picking apples, apple pie, applesauce, apple butter….Well, you get the picture. It’s one of our favorite times of the year! But with all of these wonderful treats, there’s one that many call their absolute favorite – the apple fritter!
Now, we all know the classic shape of the apple fritter, but what about switching it up a bit? How about a ring-shaped fritter! It has the perfect ratio of crisp, crunchy coating to tart, warm apple goodness. Talk about the perfect fall treat!
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 t cinnamon
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 T vegetable oil
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup flour
- 1 t baking powder
- 1/4 t salt
1. Peel, core, and slice your apples. Using a mandolin will help you to get perfectly even slices, but it’s certainly possible to use a knife to do this.
2. Whisk together all ingredients to prepare the batter.
3. Coat each ring in the prepared batter.
4. Fry in hot vegetable oil until golden brown. You’ll need to flip the apple slices once to cook them on both sides.
Set the freshly fried apple rings on a paper towel to soak up excess oil, and dust lightly with powdered sugar.
No finer treat in the world, as far as we’re concerned. What’s your favorite way to use apples?
