Entertaining on a whim and your theme has got you in a bind? Do you find the clock is rushing against you and there is absolutely no time left to bake your grandma’s best cupcake recipe from scratch? After styling numerous dessert tables, I have come to terms with myself that I can’t do it all, all the time. I’ll usually make two or three things from scratch and designate the other tasks to either a bakery or friend, or even buy cupcakes from the grocery store and add my own twist.
I recently had a photo shoot for a magazine, and I really wanted to use sprinkled cupcakes because I love how they look. I was not sharing a recipe, so they just needed to look pretty. Instead of spending a couple hours baking them from scratch and decorating them, I went to Trader Joes and bought red velvet cupcakes. The problem was, I envisioned colorful sprinkles on top. Luckily, I already had a container of sprinkles at home, so I added them to the top of each cupcake and displayed them on a gorgeous Martha Stewart cake plate. Super easy, right?
In case you’re in a bind, I put together this list of 5 super easy hacks for decorating plain cupcakes from the bakery or grocery store.
