We would be teasing if we said we didn’t have a Pinterest board of our dream rings and proposals before it happened! Getting engaged is such an exciting time, the love of your life just asked you to spend the rest of your lives together and now things are official! We are so excited to introduce you to Amanda and Stephan who recently got engaged and have been together for SEVEN YEARS. This Marie Antoinette garden themed engagement shoot has us swooning. The romantic and vintage details are definitely making us feel in love. But before you can throw a beautiful engagement party, you need a perfect proposal. Kay Jewelers can help you discover your ideal proposal with their Kay Proposal Plan quiz.
Check out Amanda and Stephan’s proposal story and gorgeous engagement photos below as well as some of our favorite rings from Kay!
Amanda and Stephan met in 2008 during their sophomore year at Christopher Newport University. After several years of dating (during which time Amanda introduced Stephan to the world of Old Hollywood Cinema), Stephan proposed in Washington D.C. in front of the National Christmas Tree (knowing how much Amanda LOVES the Holiday Season!). When it came time to do an engagement photo session, the couple had already been together for 7 years!
They knew they wanted to do something unique and appropriate for their venue, so the couple chose to channel a classic, Old Hollywood vibe. After consulting with their photographer, Shalese Danielle, they decided to go all out! They started with vintage luggage, birdcage and fedora hats, and a salvaged mink coat for a Fred Astaire/Ava Gardner-esq look.
They focused on utilizing the atmosphere of their soon-to-be wedding venue, Main Street Train Station. The station is a historic monument in downtown Richmond where Amanda grew up and where the couple resided prior to their wedding.
Their ceremony and reception were both held at Main Street on June 6th 2015. As with their engagement shoot, the historic location begged for a glamorous, old Hollywood-inspired theme, and with the help of Caroline Birgmann and her team at Posh PR, The DiTullio’s pulled off a fabulous night! The couple worked off of the station’s vintage charm by placing a homemade backdrop (by Amanda’s long-time friend Cate Henderson, co-owner of Style Mutt) in front of a set of grand doors leading out onto the terrace.
Nearly everything was homemade: gold, spray painted wine bottles as vases to hold pink and white peonies and roses, an old-fashioned chalkboard train schedule-inspired itinerary, quilt squares to be signed by guests as a guestbook (to later be quilted by the bride’s maternal grandmother!), and large A&S initials made form wine corks. On top of that, their centerpieces were a dazzling set of 22 glittering starburst stands recycled from Starbucks Christmas decorations, where Amanda previously worked.
The reception consisted of cocktails, sorbet in place of cake, Italian wedding cookies made by the groom’s mother and aunts, and plenty of dancing! Amanda works as a dance teacher and free-lance choreographer, and some of her students from Legacy School of Dance surprised them by performing one of their winning hip hop routines in front of a lively crowd, and they even got the Bride to join in-gown and all! The dancing and celebrating continued until the Bride and Groom made their grand exit through a wave of pink glow sticks.
We took the Kay Jewelers Proposal Plan quiz and it asked a series of questions like favorite ring styles, perfect engagement setting and so much more. The quiz only took 2 minutes and the results were spot on- “The Private Proposal” giving us the shape, setting, metal, ring size and details of our dream intimate engagement. Kay Jewelers then offers to email you your results, allows you to pin it or share it to your social media platforms, and offers a special offer for the ring.
