This chair is every mid-century modern lover’s dream! You and your loved ones will be fighting over who gets to sit in this beauty! Here’s what Melissa has to say:
“The very first time I laid eyes on an Eames lounge chair, I was in love!!!! It’s iconic design was pure eye candy to me. For years, my husband and I coveted the chair, but didn’t want to shell out the cash for an original. But last Christmas it all changed when we finally gave into our temptation by getting a replica.
Mid-century modern furniture has hit the mainstream these days and we found a ton of companies offering Eames lounge replicas. We began to realize that most of the replicas out there were “all talk.” Chairs made of faux leather and printed laminate wood-grain were asking upwards of $1,000 dollars! The quality on these models was just not there. We wanted a chair as close to the original Eames for a fraction of the price that didn’t compromise on quality. That’s when we discovered Rove Concepts. After a bit of research, we knew we couldn’t go wrong with their Eames lounge replica.
When I first visited their website, I was able to chat with a live representative who was extremely helpful with answering all of my questions. Right then and there, I could tell there was something special about this company. Unlike most of the replicas out there, Rove’s main focus is on authenticity and quality. I found out that their version is built upon the original specs and details as the original, and read various reviews of owners proclaiming that they couldn’t tell the difference vs. a real one.
Let’s talk about the incredible features of Rove’s replica. The chair is upholstered in full-grain Italian Aniline leather that is just like butter and extremely supple. Over time, it is said that the leather develops a nice patina and softness creating an experience reminiscent of sitting in an old baseball mitt. This makes the chair a great investment knowing that it’s only going to get better with time! We wanted to keep it classy and went with the Modena black leather. We love it’s satin sheen and rich soft texture. As far as veneer options go, we chose the Rosewood Palisander. The grain on this chair is absolutely gorgeous! Rove’s veneers are certified to be only the best cuts, all finished with 4 coats of Italian lacquer, ensuring the color will not fade over time. We love how the finish matches our vintage TV stand and and other wood accents throughout our home.
As for durability, the chair is built like a tank and you can really feel it’s build quality when you sit in it. It features 7 ply’s of cross-grained engineered wood and is Kiln dry stabilized to prevent warping or cracking. Braided thread used with Lockstitch ensures everything stays in place from the seams to the piping. The powder coated cast base and back braces are super sturdy and beautifully finished with polished aluminum trim.
This chair is as comfortable as it is sexy. A lot of times with modern furniture, you end up sacrificing comfort for aesthetics, but with Rove’s lounge you get the best of both worlds. My husband loves lounging in it and is hands down his favorite TV chair. I love working from my laptop in it with my feet kicked up or even catching a snuggle with the kiddos. It even makes the perfect nursery chair – as I’ve used it many times to feed Claire. It has great back support and the perfect arm cushion height for typing.
All and all, if you’re in the market for great reproduction mid-century modern furniture (Rove offers more than just the Eames Lounge), Rove is hands down the best company that I have found. Sure you will pay a bit more for their reproductions vs. others, but that saying rings true “you get what you pay for” and the reality is that you’re really not paying too much more for the degree of quality that Rove offers.”
