We ALL know that moving has never been fun. In fact, we used to dread the process and pretend it wasn’t going to happen at all! Lucky for you, we are now experienced in the process and have come up with a few Tips to Ease the Moving Experience. From taking advantage of your time pre-move to following a few simple steps during and after, it will be over before you know it. If you follow our advice, you won’t believe how simple your next move can be! Check out our helpful tips below:

Take advantage of the pre-move

During this period, take advantage of your time! Create your pre-move checklist because you will be kicking yourself later if you put this off. Trust us, it’s much easier to accomplish a few things over a longer period of time than to try and knock out a full checklist in one afternoon. We have tried and it never works! This is the perfect time to start updating all of your information. Start with your license, register your change of address with USPS, and notify your utility services as well as banks. Get rid of your unwanted items during this time as well. You don’t want to lug around extra boxes then realize you didn’t need any of it once you are in your new home!

Let’s get organized

There’s nothing we love more than being organized. It makes you and your family happy and will help keep stress at a minimum. Make a packing supplies kit so that you have all of your tools in one handy space. Next, gather your boxes or rent them if possible, but be sure to keep them light to ensure you don’t hurt yourself. One of the most useful tips we have personally used recently is using color-coded tape to mark which boxes go in each room. This makes a HUGE difference and will help you when you are unpacking in your new home. Prevent damage and spills by using your towels to wrap delicate items. This is definitely a 2 in 1 packing tip! Don’t forget to defrost your refrigerator and drain the gas and oil from your lawn equipment before the big day.

Moving day

The biggest regret you could make on moving day is not packing a first-night box! Put the essentials in one easy to reach place. This includes toilet paper, toiletries, medications, snacks, cleaning supplies, coffee, pet supplies, bedding, and an extra change of clothes. Clean your old house when it is completely empty, this is much faster and easier. When you are moving into your new home, double check that the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are functional. Also locate your fire extinguisher!

You’re all done!

Congratulations! The hard part is officially over, we knew you could do it! Now that you have officially moved into your new home, there are just a few easy things we think you should do. First, have a toolkit handy to set up your new space easily. Make sure you notify your friends and family with your new address and change your locks to keep safe. Most importantly, protect your new home! Make sure your home and all of your belongings are protected with homeowners or renter’s insurance. It’s always better to be safe than sorry!
