Ever since we’ve kicked off the New Year, I have been so in the zone on making up routines that are do-able and REALLY work for me!  Anyone else feeling the same way these past couple of months?   Finding that perfect balance can be tough stuff! I recently read a quote that said, “You own your time, time doesn’t own you,” which has transformed how I look at my time these days. In the past, almost every morning, I would roll out of bed and quickly get Charlie ready for school and scurry out the door. I think we can all agree that starting the day off on a rushed note is the worst!  Other times, I would set my alarm earlier and have some “me time,” but I was never consistent with that either.  One of my big goals for 2017 is consistently making a point to get up extra early while everyone is sleeping and slowly get ready for the day. As I’ve been doing this for the past couple weeks, I wanted to share with you my NEW and improved morning routine. Not only are the mornings smoother, but I have also found myself feeling so much calmer throughout the day.

I try to get up at 5:00 AM and kick off the morning by rinsing off in a hot shower. There has always been something about hot water that wakes me right up. I can’t exactly describe why that happens, but it really does work! ;) Once I hop out of the shower, I immediately put my lotion on. I am one of those people who has really, really, really dry skin. It started about 7 years ago, and I feel like every year it gets worst, especially on my face. It’s almost like there is elasticity in my skin.  I have to admit, I’ve been trying so many different products to help me nip this one in the bud, but it’s been really hard to find something that works well enough for me to buy it again. I like to call those “one hit wonders.” From high end products to drugstore products, the struggle is real! And you would be totally shocked if you saw the list of how many different products I have tried. We’re talking a list as long as toilet paper here… okay, maybe not that long, but you know what I mean! ;)

Recently a friend on Facebook recommended Curél® Hydra Therapy Wet Skin Moisturizerso I took the plunge. The first thing I thought was, what exactly does Hydra Therapy even mean!? I’ve only recently seen products with the word “Hydra Therapy” but never really understood the concept. So after doing some research, it all made sense. The thing that makes Hydra Therapy lotion so much different is the application. You have to put it on as soon as you hop out of the shower in order for it to work properly. This part is crucially important because what happens after showering is that your skin cells expand, providing an easy pathway for moisture into just-showered skin. So you rub it onto your wet skin, right after you hop out of the shower and before you towel dry. The lotion penetrates deeply into the surface of the skin bringing moisture to the source of dryness. So now the whole Hydra Therapy hype totally makes sense! And let me tell you, I’ve been using this for the past few weeks and this stuff really truly does work, and it feels AMAZING! My skin is softer, hydrated… but I only wish I knew about this stuff 7 years ago! Girlfriends: if you’re struggling with this whole dry skin thing like me, this is the stuff! ;)

Once I rinse off in the shower, I do my skin routine, then I quickly put on my makeup. Sometimes I will light a slightly fragrant candle or turn on some very low acoustic music to set the tone.  Depending on what kind of mood I am in, sometimes I will spend 15 minutes putting all my makeup on OR just skip that part! ;) We own our own time, right?!  Next up, I make a cup of hot tea.  I have been on such a tea kick lately! My current favorite right now is ginger turmeric with a squeeze or two (okay maybe three) of honey! ;)

And my favorite part, I curl up on the sofa and read a good book. Whenever I read, I try NOT to go on social media. Sometimes I have to admit, I get too excited and have to peek at what everyone is up to – but I always feel the most clear headed when I avoid social media in the mornings. And there you have it girlfriends, this is my morning routine in a perfect world. I will be honest, just like we all do, I have my days where I still hit the snooze button and get out of bed later than I like. But when I wake up slowly but surely and have time to myself, it is the cherry on top of my day!
