With our busy lives, we can all agree that it can get hard to balance life and work. We are over the moon about having Alyssa of Sugar and Stripes here to give us her best tips on doing it all! Here is what Alyssa has to say:

It’s not easy being a Get It Girl while juggling all the other aspects of life. Following your dreams, having a career, all while maintaining a personal life, a family, and taking care of yourself is enough to exhaust anyone!

While there isn’t a secret formula to “having it all” and doing it all perfectly, I think Shonda Rhimes puts it best when she addresses the recent graduates in her Dartmouth 2014 Commencement speech: “…anyone who tells you they are doing it all perfectly is a liar!” In her speech she goes on to say that when people ask her how she does it all, she replies that she does not. She does not have it all, but that she is OK with it and she does her best, because she is leading a fulfilled and whole life that her daughters will admire.

Now there may not be a magic formula when juggling your busy life, but below are a few ways to find a bit more balance and fulfillment in your life and how to create your very own version of “having it all!”

1) Take Care Of Yourself First: You should always be your own #1 priority. Your own health, happiness, and well-being has to be in tip top shape before you can be great at being a business owner, mother, or friend. Live healthily, spend some time alone, take vacations, be kind to yourself, and make time (even if it’s just 15 minutes) to do at least one thing you genuinely love every day.

2) Prioritize: As BFFF Get It Girl Tamara Taggart says, “Being busy does not make you better or more successful; quality not quantity is what’s important.” Aside from making your own health and mental well being first priority, prioritize your top five priorities in your day-to-day life and create #3 around them!

3) Schedule: Find a daily or weekly routine (if your work permits) and carve out time for what is important and what matters in your life. If you find that working out is important, but you hate that it takes time away from your family or friend time at the end of the day, start waking up an hour earlier and exercise in the morning or work out at lunch. Haven’t seen or talked to an old friend in a while? Actually schedule it in your weekly calendar and make time for the things that matter. Whatever the task may be, if it’s important to you, add it to your schedule and hold yourself accountable to do each task and be present when doing so. You may not get everything little thing checked off your to do list, but you will feel more balanced at the end of the day.

4) Unplug: It may feel genuinely impossible to put away the phone or stop checking emails after your “scheduled” work day is over, especially if you are a business owner or work from home, but this is absolutely key in order to be completely present in other aspects of your life. Whether you are on the phone with a girlfriend catching up, or out on date night, be sure you aren’t checking emails or thumbing through Facebook when the other is speaking. This is a great way to nurture your relationships and be present, while giving those you love and care about your full attention.

While there may not be a magic formula for having it all we hope these few organizational tips can you help you achieve a bit of organization and balance on in your busy Get It Girl life! Tell us in the comments below how you “have it all” on a daily basis!
