We all know the feeling – you are running late to your friend’s dinner party, you left work late, and now you remembered you were in charge of the dessert! What you need is an easy, yet delicious, recipe on hand. Lucky for us, Rebecca of Sugar & Soul is sharing her easy cheese danish recipe with us and we couldn’t be more excited. Ever since I worked at Starbucks in college, I’ve had this love of cheese danishes. They are such a classic pastry with that flaky dough and slightly sweet cream cheese center. To make them from scratch would take hours, but this recipe uses premade pastry dough for a delicious pastry that’s ready in less than 30 minutes! These Cheese Danishes are a simple and classic pastry that are best consumed warm from the oven with a cup of coffee.
EASY CHEESE DANISH RECIPE
Yields: 9 Pastries
- 1 package (2 sheets) puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp water
- 8 oz. cream cheese, softened
- ¼ cup confectioners’ sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
- Unfold pastry sheets and use a pizza or pastry cutter to cut each section into three strips, leaving you with 18 strips total between the two sheets.
- Take two strips and pinch the ends together, then twist them together and in on themselves to make a circle with one of the end filling the center. Place them on a parchment lined baking sheet.
- Whisk together one egg and the water, then brush the pastries with the egg wash. Bake for 12 minutes.
- Meanwhile, add the filling ingredients to a large bowl or stand mixer fitter with a whisk attachment and beat until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Pull pastries out of the oven and use the back of a spoon to press down the center, then add a 1.5 tablespoons dolop to the center of each pastry. Bake for another 10 minutes or until pastry is golden brown and cheese has set.
- Remove from oven and dust with confectioners’ sugar, serve warm.
Optional: Add a dolop of your favorite jam with the cheese for a fruity touch.
