Decorating for the holidays is my most favorite time of the season! Bringing out all the old boxes of decorations full of memories mixed with new ones brings more joy to my heart than I can describe. Isn’t that feeling just the best? It’s like all these warm feelings and memories rolled into one!
Do you ever feel like it’s time to upgrade certain pieces in your decor? Me too! This year I (finally) bought matching ornaments which was a total game-changer for our tree. We also got a new festive holiday banner to drape over the mantel (so fun!). And while we were at it, we finally took the plunge and switched our traditional incandescent holiday bulbs over to LED lights! We were so impressed with how much money this saved us, that we ended up changing every single light in our house to LEDs. ;)
As lighting plays a big role in building the holiday spirit, both outside and inside the home, I am especially excited about this change! Taking the plunge to switch over to LED lights at home has been on my list for longer than I can remember. Especially now as a family of four, it was long past due. You can get LED holiday lights at your local hardware store– just look for ENERGY STAR LEDs and for everyday home lighting, you can easily shop online at PG&E’s Marketplace. After doing some research, I now have Andy believing that I am an absolute genius! Here’s the low down: LEDs reduce energy consumption up to 90% as compared to traditional string lights (hello PG&E bill). Not to mention they are also shatter-proof and produce almost NO heat, making them safe to touch and reducing the risk of fire. Hello kid-friendly and this mamma not having to look over her shoulder 24/7. I repeat, they produce almost no heat! Talk about making spirits extra bright around here!
Andy and I have been having a blast playing Emily Henderson and Martha Stewart around the house decorating with our most favorite pieces. You know me, I always go for the pinks (it’s my comfort zone), so Andy has learned to embrace it. He tells me he likes it now, but I think he’s trying to make me feel better. Let’s be real, if I wasn’t around, I am pretty sure everything would be wood textured and blue! ;)
What upgrades are you planning to incorporate into your holiday decor? New bulbs, new dishes, new traditions? It’s truly the most wonderful time of year! And if you’re looking for LED lights, I just have to dish to you that PG&E’s Marketplace is such an amazing place to shop for LED everyday lighting and even other Smart Choice products. I know this first hand! ;)
