As A LOT of responses from our 2017 reader survey shared that you don’t know me as well as you’d like to…I just knew I was totally overdue to share a FAQ on the blog! I’ve been keeping a running list of questions I’ve received via email, comments, social media, AND even on my personal Facebook page to share with you for this section. So here goes nothing! ;)
How long have you been blogging for? I started Best Friends For Frosting 9 years ago, if you want to get super technical!!! ;) I’ve NEVER shared this before but I actually started Best Friends For Frosting over here. Get ready for some AMAZING photography….just kidding! You will probably be surprised. Please be light on me – it’s from 2008!! I’ve meant to take it down forever, but now I am so grateful it’s a reminder of how I started. ;)
Where did you go to college at? I went to Sacramento City College. I did NOT actually attend a university and quickly left school as it was hard for me to retain an interest. I’ve always LOVED the social aspect of school, but I always felt my mind wandering to build and work creatively. I left to work at 3 different bakeries to gain experience to open my own when later I found out that I was more in-love with the creative direction process VERSUS all the other aspects a bakery entails! ;) I always knew I would be an entrepreneur of some sort. It’s in my family’s genes (my grandfather ran for mayer and was a well-known boxer, my parents owned a senior in-home care agency and the list goes on). Watching my family build their own dreams instilled that “the sky is the limit mentality.” in me! Later this blog was born, but I truly had NO idea that it would turn into my full time job! I am SO thankful! Every single day is a pinch-me moment. I could never do this without your support.

Is your house really perfect? Not yet! ;) Andy and I have been renting for the past 12 years and have been house hunting now for more than 2 years. We’re so ready to get our hands on something we love and pour our heart and soul into it. We’ve already gotten the party started by making over several rooms in our home. Our kitchen is so ready for a refresh. There is carpet (eek) in a couple rooms. Luckily we’ve been able to add some improvements to the home like additional lighting, slate flooring, and splash lots of white paint on the walls. The house is a Mid-Century 1960s ranch with lots of windows. Please cross your fingers and toes and braid your hair that 2017 is the year we find our new home!!!
Do you actually make money running a blog? LOL. This is the burning question I get asked this ALL the time. While it is still hard for even me to even wrap my mind around this experience, Best Friends For Frosting is my full time job. Best Friends For Frosting is 100% our only stream of revenue that supports our entire family + our team of 8!  Here’s a fun interview on Think Creative Collective’s podcast where I shared how I built BFFF into a profitable lifestyle website.
Are you kidding me? Said almost everyone! ;) I could never do this without our incredible team, community, and readers. I feel so incredibly lucky that I get to do this with you every day.

How do you do it all? I wish they sold a box of progress at the store and we could call it a day, but there are SO many moving pieces around. I’ve played “trial & error” with so many different setups, but I think that this past month we are getting closer and closer to making the process feel smooth. Because of SO many launches we’re gearing up for, Andy is currently working on the business only a few hours a week while I have gone full time! I wake up extra early and have some bonding time with Claire and Charlie in the morning. We get ready slowly and have breakfast. I take Charlie to school and meet my team and get working. We also have days where we section off time to go to my home studio or my parent’s Air BNB (when it’s not being rented) and create projects and do photoshoots. I am off work at 4:00 and come home and unplug and make sure to be totally present with my family. I’m that kind of girl where the minute I think about work, my mind can’t slow down. I’m curious to know if anyone else reading this post ever feels that way too? I love what I do so much that I have to create even my own boundaries to give 110% in every aspect of my life. I’m getting there, but I constantly struggle with being hard on myself. The struggle of being a super organized over-achiever can be emotionally draining at times.
What does your life look like when you’re not blogging? Believe it or not, I am quite a homebody. Does anyone else feel like the minute you go out into a social situation, you end up wishing you were at home in your pajamas instead?! ME TOO! HAHAH! I swear my life is NOT as glamorous as it’s portrayed here 24/7. I have clothes on my closet floor, sometimes a sink full of dishes, AND I am a firm believer in lounging around the house! ;) Usually on weekends, we’re either exploring our city, going to the playground, out to eat, or just hanging out at home. If we’re at someone else’s house, it’s almost always either my parents or Andy’s family. I see my best friend since kindergarten, Amy, once a month. She’s that friend where we know everything about each other’s family and we always pick back up right where we left off. Aren’t those friends the best??? I am also Charlie’s room mom, so every Friday I volunteer in his classroom. I also am responsible for coordinating ALL the class parties. Pinch me! Can’t believe I get to do this too!
What does it feel like to be that busy? Busy is SO overrated.  =( I feel like lately, my mind feels like it’s been on information overload and I am running 1000 miles an hour. It’s not healthy, and I know it’s not good for me. You know what I mean? I feel like no matter how many hours there are in the day, it’s never enough. My mind is always racing ahead and thinking of the next big thing to do. That is a big reason why I’m so passionate about talking about in the moment living over here. It’s because I’ve always struggled with it and it’s really an off and on thing for me. Sometimes I am SO good at it while other times I have to take a step back and reel myself back into a calmer life.

What do you wish you had more of in your life? SOOO many things! I need ANOTHER “me day” and more date nights with Andy. I am still sitting on a raincheck from my birthday in January for my parents to babysit the kids while we go to the movies and dinner. I need time to go through ALL my photos and print them and organize them into photo albums. I would LOVE more quality time one on one with Charlie and Claire individually. Charlie and I recently had such a blast on our mother-son road trip to Monterey. I need time to organize my capsule wardrobe. I need time to get rid of 80% of the things in my craft closet that are no longer serving me. I need time for a pedicure (chipped polish as I type this). I would love to get rid of all the water bottles that somehow accidentally got under my bed along with old magazines, it bugs me how messy it has become! I need to make time to start meal prepping each and every week so we’re all eating healthy. There’s a few things I’d say. ;)
If you could be anything in the world, what would it be? I can wholeheartedly tell you it would be this! I LOVE having this corner of the internet together with you where I can share with you about ways to celebrate the every day! My only wish for this brand is that I grow it bigger than I had ever imagined. Sometimes it feels so isolating when I can’t see ALL the ways you guys are incorporating your projects into your lives. I know we have our #SOBestFriendsForFrosting hashtag where we can continue to have a place to gather together and share our fun photos, but I want more with all of you! I would love the opportunity to have a product line where you can physically hold a tangible item and easily use it for your every day or celebrations! My plan is to continue growing Best Friends For Frosting into a brand where it can benefit others in ALL sorts of ways. I am still in the strategy phase with our team. Ideally though, I would love to do several launches that are an extension of this current brand.  If anyone has suggestions, questions or just a vote of confidence, I would LOVE to hear from you!
And if you got this far, I want to thank you SOOO much for all of your support along this journey. All of you bring so much joy into my life. I could NEVER do this without your support. It’s because of each and every one of you why Best Friends For Frosting is able to open up so many doors. Love you guys!

What a great post. I love hearing others blog stories and how it can become a full time job. I definitely have that same issue of shutting off my work brain. I work 8-5 as an event planner and do my food blog after work and it feels like I’m working 24/7. So when it’s not that busy, I’m in my jammies lounging!!!
