Our Team BFFF Lunch Gathering at The Waterboy

Happy OFFICIAL second day of May! I am so excited to kick off this brand new month with a re-cap of our team party at one of my FAVORITE restaurants in Sacramento – The Waterboy! It’s always been one of Andy and I’s top places to go for date night. You know when there’s a place you love and you want to tell the whole entire world about it?! That is the exact way I feel about this restaurant!!!!  So when I found out that most of our team had not been here before, I insisted on being the first to introduce them!

About every 6-8 weeks, our team gets together in a setting outside of “work.”  Anyone remember our last Cake For Breakfast party at Rick’s Dessert Diner?! Having these get togethers has been such a fun way to get out of the grind and get to know each other better and have some fun. We’re missing 6 of our team members, but I would love to personally introduce you to our team pictured above. Left to right – Melissa (me) in PINK, Mandy (Marketing & PR), Jeff in gray of The Film Squad, Andy (my husband – who is a jack of all trades behind the scenes at BFFF), Izzy in red plaid who is also from The Film Squad, Jenn Bartell in beige cardigan (one of our amazing content photographers), and Alexandria (our Operations Director). Missing from behind the camera and literally taking our photo is the incredibly talented Tra of Two Twenty Photos. There is another picture of us all together at the bottom of this post. ;)

We kicked the party off with a quick champagne / grape juice toast! If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen some of our behind the scenes. ;)

We were over the moon that Sacramento’s local famous Chef & Owner (of The Waterboy & OneSpeed Pizza), Rick Mahan not only created a customized menu for our team but personally cooked everything in the kitchen! Rick is a Sacramento legend! Talk about hitting the lotto!

Okay, let’s talk about THE FOOD! It was like being at an audition for Valley Girl. There were A LOT of repeated “OMG’s”!  ;)  Everything was out of this world! No exaggeration here. Pictured above – Izzy got Pan Seared Dayboat Scallops (Risotto Verde, Asparagus, Dragon Mushrooms, Shallot-Tarragon Butter Sauce).

Many of us (including myself) got the Potato & Leek Soup (Spring Garlic, Roasted Cauliflower, Shaved Artichoke & Thyme Butter). Perfection!

Andy, Tra, Jeff, and I all got the Steak ‘du’ jour (which comes with Potato Gratin, Grilled Asparagus, Roasted Onions, Arugula, Red Wine Butter). This plate was incredible!!! My  #1 takeaway from this entire dining experience is their Potato Gratin (pictured above)!!! Jeff said word for word “I am freaking out. This stuff is SO good”.  It was one of the BEST things I have ever eaten in my entire life. No exaggeration. I am craving it as I am typing this post and I am already full from lunch. You know it’s good if you’re craving something while you’re full LOL.

Okay, so you know how Bon Appetit Magazine has that section where they ask their readership to tell them the one recipe they wish they could have?! THIS is the one recipe I would request in here. Lucky for me, I’m just a 10 minute drive from The Waterboy, but I wish our national readers could experience this perfection!!! If you live in Sacramento OR plan to come down here, you have to try this!! The valley girl in me just has to say it – OMG! Oh my Gratin! ;)

Mandy got Ravioli Ricotta, Carrots & Arugula (Pine Nuts, Grilled Asparagus, Roasted Onions, Arugula, Red Wine Butter). She’s a big time ravioli girl so she was OVER THE MOON excited!

Alexandria got the Salad of Baby Beets (Shaved Asparagus, Mushrooms, Lemon, Reggiano, Fresh Herb Salad). “This is so healthy and tasteful”. One thing I LOVE about recipes is adding all types of colors and textures on to the plate. Call me a silly willy, but I always get so excited when I see summer shades like oranges and pinks displayed in a salad. I pin this kind of stuff ALL the time on our Pinterest.

I am convinced I’ll always be a kid at heart who gets 10X more excited about dessert than your average 5 year old! I was so excited when I noticed they made Strawberry Sorbet!!! This was one of my top favorite things from the menu as well. I ate every single last bite. If there was a straw on the table, I would have drank the last bit of it. I told you I am a kid at heart. ;) It was the perfect balance of sweet and tangy! The texture was SPOT on! Now I’m officially ready for summer! ;)

And of course we had to grab some snapshots of the team! Andy was especially so happy that Jeff & Izzy (from The Film Squad) joined us as he was finally NOT the only guy crashing our parties. ;) I can hardly wait to show you our latest video we shot with them on our house hunting adventure. It’s coming to the blog this week!

You know how I feel about sharing bright and airy places on the blog! It’s my second favorite thing after a great dessert of course! ;) There was the perfect amount of sunshine for this great day!  PS. Not wiping that smile off my face! ;) I have dessert in my hands!!!!!!!!

And one last shot of the team because it would never be the same without Tra (of Two Twenty Photos!) She had Andy take this picture. Tra is pictured next to me in the green and blue striped shirt! Fun fact: I probably laugh 100X on average when I hang out with her. She’s hilarious!!!!

We don’t let any grass grow under our feet. ;) We’re already planning our next team party. Does anyone have any ideas where we should go next?!  I would love to hear your suggestions in the comments below!!  Wishing you all an amazing 2nd day of May from Sunny Sacramento! =)
