We all know the drill – you thought you threw your keys in your purse but they somehow ended up in between the couch cushions. When you’re running late, this can be a nightmare! Megan Roy is sharing her Woodland Animal Key Rack tutorial with us today to help avoid this mess altogether. This playful, colorful key rack is made from everyday items to help brighten up your space and help de-clutter! You probably have most of the materials already which makes it even easier. We love that you can create your own colorful palette, or keep it simple with white paint and the gold animals for a chic and modern look. Check out Megan’s tutorial below:

  • A small wood board (exact size is up to you, depending on where you plan to
  • hang it)
  • Plastic toy animals (we used 3, you can use as many as will fit comfortably on
  • your board)
  • Paint in assorted colors
  • Gold paint and spray paint
  • Painter’s tape
  • Paint brushes
  • Glue (we recommend something strong like E6000)
  • A handsaw (not pictured)
  • Sandpaper (not pictured)
  • Command Strips for hanging the key rack (not pictured)
  1. Use a small handsaw to cut your plastic toy animals in half and smooth the flat end out with sandpaper.
  2. In a well-ventilated area (we recommend going outside), spray paint the animals gold. Let them dry while you work on the next few steps.
  3. Use the painter’s tape to section off your wooden board. Paint in the desired colors and let dry.
  4. Paint the edges of the board gold and let dry.
  5. Use the painter’s tape to section off a small strip between colors. Paint them gold and let dry.
  6. Glue your animals to the board. Allow 24 hours for the adhesive to dry before hanging the key rack.
  7. Use Command Strips to hang on the wall! Ta da!
