It’s grapefruit season and we just can’t get enough of them!!! We are so thrilled to have Kelley of Chef Savvy here with to share with us how to turn one of our favorite fruits into a cocktail! It’s really easy and will wow your guests for your next get together. These would be perfect for a girl’s night, summer BBQ party, or just an extra special dinner! Here is Kelley with the recipe:
Mojitos are one of my favorite drinks. In my opinion they should be served year round, not just in the summer. Mojitos are incredibly refreshing with fresh sprigs of mint and fresh squeezed lime juice.
I love experimenting with different flavor combinations for mojitos. I’ve made pomegranate mojitos, blackberry, and my all time favorite cranberry. Now I can add grapefruit to the list. Fresh fruit and mojitos go so well together. The addition of the grapefruit gives this cocktail an extra tartness and beautiful pink hue.
The mojito starts with a simple syrup, just sugar and water boiled until the sugar dissolves. This makes your drink sweet throughout without the sugar falling just to the bottom.
This simple cocktail is so easy to make. While your simple syrup is simmering, muddle your lime juice and mint. Add in rum, the cooled simple syrup, grapefruit juice, and sparkling water. Pour over ice and enjoy! I like to add extra slices of grapefruit in the drink for presentation (they are also wonderful to eat when you’ve finished your drink). You will be enjoying this cocktail in less than 5 minutes!
