It’s grapefruit season and we just can’t get enough of them!!! We are so thrilled to have Kelley of Chef Savvy here with to share with us how to turn one of our favorite fruits into a cocktail! It’s really easy and will wow your guests for your next get together. These  would be perfect for a girl’s night, summer BBQ party, or just an extra special dinner! Here is Kelley with the recipe:

Mojitos are one of my favorite drinks. In my opinion they should be served year round, not just in the summer. Mojitos are incredibly refreshing with fresh sprigs of mint and fresh squeezed lime juice.
I love experimenting with different flavor combinations for mojitos. I’ve made pomegranate mojitos, blackberry, and my all time favorite cranberry.  Now I can add grapefruit to the list. Fresh fruit and mojitos go so well together. The addition of the grapefruit gives this cocktail an extra tartness and beautiful pink hue.
The mojito starts with a simple syrup, just sugar and water boiled until the sugar dissolves. This makes your drink sweet throughout without the sugar falling just to the bottom.

This simple cocktail is so easy to make. While your simple syrup is simmering, muddle your lime juice and mint. Add in rum, the cooled simple syrup, grapefruit juice, and sparkling water. Pour over ice and enjoy! I like to add extra slices of grapefruit in the drink for presentation (they are also wonderful to eat when you’ve finished your drink). You will be enjoying this cocktail in less than 5 minutes!

Okay not to be a pain, or sound silly…. But in your instructions…. You never eloborate on what you do with the simple syrup that is made in (step one.)

      1. In a small sauce pan add sugar and water, cook until sugar dissolves, 1-2 minutes, set aside to cool.
      2. Add lime juice and mint into each glass, muddle to bring out the flavor of the mint.
      3. Top each glass with ice.
3.?????…. Pour in rum and grapefruit juice, stir.?????
      4. Top off each glass with sparkling water, garnish with grapefruit and mint, if desired.

I read through the paragraph in between the photos to find out what to do, but it would be nice as a reader to find out specifics like you added into your read, included in the actual drink mixing instructions. Sounds like a great drink, I will try it. I love rum.

Same! Where’s the rum part? ;) I simply halved the recipe in two glasses – store bought simple syrup – added, rum then juice, ice and soda water. Very good.
