We’ve been holding back on telling you an exciting secret for a little while – unless of course you follow us on Instagram. We sort of spilled the glitter there!
Last year, Martha Stewart contacted us to make an online DIY tutorial. Does anyone remember our Chic Coasters? Well, we were so thrilled to find out that it was actually a secret audition for Martha Stewart’s #12MonthsofMartha! Martha Stewart’s #12MonthsofMartha selects a handful of bloggers to create exclusive content with Martha’s crafting products. Our exclusive posts will then be featured here and on Martha Stewart’s website every month of 2014. We couldn’t be more thrilled!
Today our founder, Melissa Johnson, is sharing a Valentine’s tutorial that you definitely won’t want to miss. Here is what Melissa says about this DIY project:
Bunting banners will never go out of style. It’s so fun how you can personalize them to any event, whether it be to match the colors, decor, or names. With my favorite pink holiday (Valentine’s) approaching, I wanted to make something simple and fun, yet easy enough to be tailored for any party. With a little bit of chalkboard paint, twine, stationary, tape, and a few wooden hearts, I created an easy DIY project that’s fun for any upcoming party.
MATERIALS:
-Twine
-Paintbrush
-Scissors
-Chalk (optional)
-Martha Stewart Chalkboard Acrylic Craft Paint
-Martha Stewart Chalkboard Acrylic Craft Finish
-Wooden shaped hearts
-Martha Stewart Love Notes Paper Cards Set
-Gold Fringe Tassels
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Apply 2 coats of Martha Stewart Chalkboard Acrylic Craft Paint to your wooden hearts. Let dry completely for at least 1 hour between coats.
2. Once the chalkboard hearts are dry, apply 2 coats of Martha Stewart Chalkboard Acrylic Craft Finish. Let dry completely for at least 1 hour between coats.
3. Once your hearts are dry, attach chalkboard hearts to a piece of twine.
4. Between each chalkboard heart, add your choice of Martha Stewart Love Notes Paper Cards Set. We chose the red ones. There is already an opening on each note card, so you will need to lightly tape or glue the top to enclose each note card on to the twine.
The hearts display gorgeously on the banner with or without chalk. Write your favorite person’s name or the theme of the party on each heart with chalk to add a personal touch.
Add a pop of extra flair by adding a gold fringe tassel to each side of your banner.

Woo-Hoo!!! So exciting! Can’t wait to follow along with each project! ;))
Thank you so much Katie. There will be so much more to come. =)
Absolutely adorable diy. Can you add how do you make the gold tassel?
You can use mylar sheets. I used a gold foil door curtain from the party store. This tutorial from The Tomkat Studios is incredibly helpful. (https://www.thetomkatstudio.com/howtomaketasselgarland/). Happy crafting! xo
Where can i find the gold tassel? Thanks.
