As the weather warms up and the world starts to bloom, it’s only natural that we break out the floral print! Our fashion contributor Kachet Jackson of The Lipstick Giraffe is here to make sure you rock the look. Whether you want to go full floral or just want to balance out your outfit, there’s a technique for that. Here’s what Kachet has to say:

“One trend that isn’t going anywhere is floral print. Year after year, it’s a trusted way to add a springy dose of style to your wardrobe. The days of looking like an old 70’s couch are long gone. Florals are coming in a wide variety of colors, sizes, and prints, so it’s easy to find one that works best for your personal taste and body type. They are also easily dressed up or down.

I’m a fan of the simple and comfortable floral look, as you can see by what I’m sporting here: boyfriend jeans, studded booties with a tassel for some edge, and a draped floral overcoat by MINKPINK (check out similar looks with this MINKPINK blazerBand of Gypsies kimono jacket, or Cultish vintage blazer). Throw on a mix of accessories and you’ll be the bloom of the season. Here are some more no-fail style options.”

At times, we need to just break the rules in fashion, so why not “punk up” your florals? It’s an interesting twist on something traditionally soft and feminine. Distressed, studded or dyed denim, leather… take your pick.

Continuing the theme of bending rules, mixing prints is fun. You can pair two very different items and make them into one complete outfit.

When mixing prints, make sure there is a balance between size of pattern and color. A larger floral print would warrant a smaller pairing, as would dark vs. light. Florals and polka dots? Maybe florals and stripes? How about florals and hexagons? Do it!

Half of wearing bold prints is attitude, so put on some lipstick, put a switch in your hips, and you’re ready to go!
