OH my gosh you guys!! I am so excited to share our very first Heartfelt Success Podcast episode which I literally JUST published LIVE last week! Your response has made my heart so full! I seriously could not have picked a more perfect first guest, Laila Ali! Laila has created an incredible name for herself. Not only is she a two-time boxing world champion, best selling author, host of OWN Network’s Emmy Award winning series “Home Made Simple with Laila Ali”, but she’s also a devoted mom and wife, podcast host and recent author of the cookbook, “Food For Life: Delicious & Healthy Comfort Food From My Table To Yours.” She is also the daughter of the boxing legend Muhammad Ali. Laila has managed to create a career and life that she absolutely loves, but she got real with us about the many challenges she faced along the way.
Laila was such a blast for our first time interview! Our conversation was filled with so many words of encouragement, motivation for how to handle failure, and stories of how Laila conquered her dreams. In this episode, Laila and I discuss how to juggle a growing family and a growing business. Just like me, Laila has two little ones at home. We had an amazing talk about how to balance time at home with being an entrepreneur, and stay sane in the process! As a fitness and nutrition expert, Laila also shared some of her expert tips for exercising and eating right. Plus she gave me the inside scoop on some of her favorite recipes from her new cookbook, “Food For Life.” We’re talking healthier versions of sweet potato pie, seafood gumbo, and fried chicken! Perfect for the busy businesswoman looking for delicious and healthy recipes for her family! This episode is filled with great insight on how to become the confident and strong person you are meant to be by filling your life with vitality!
I can’t wait for you all to hear the full first episode of our new “Heartfelt Success” podcast! This project has been such a long time in the making (seriously- I’ve been thinking about it for over six years! I’m thrilled that we could kick it off with Laila Ali! I hope this episode and the new podcast series can provide you with heartfelt motivation and inspiration! :)
Take note: Highlights from the show
“My love for cooking has grown over the years. When I became an athlete and started to learn about how the quality of the foods we eat is important and the nutrition, that’s what I started to say, ‘I want to cook all of the foods I love, but cook them in a way that’s healthy.’” (3:16)
“I’m just trying to share all of these recipes with people and encourage them to live a healthier lifestyle through the food that they eat.” (4:25)
“It’s really about finding what works for you and incorporating more fruits and vegetables….and finding that balance in what you eat.”
“I encourage people to cook because that’s the only way you really know what’s in the food you’re eating.” (12:15)
“I’ve been told ‘no’ a lot more than I’ve been told ‘yes.’” (17:25)
“Even though sometimes things don’t work out, there are so many things that do. Sometimes you just have to look around and find the things that are working out and that you are thankful for and don’t focus on the negative.” (18:15)
“The best thing you can do is just be conscious about your body and what it needs and what it doesn’t need and that starts with food.” (20:15)
“Our bodies are not meant to be stagnant and just sitting around….so we need to be getting the exercise that your body needs.” (21:20)
“Make sure that you’re the type of friend or mate that you want your friend or mate to be for you.” (23:00)
