Growing up, I really wanted to be Greek. With the debut of My Big Fat Greek Wedding in 2002, I found myself asking my mom to buy me packaged baklava for my lunches and inappropriately shouting “opaaa!” when I caught the ball in PE class. More than anything though, I wanted to be Greek so I could grow up and marry a hot Greek hunk, or more specifically, John Stamos, who you and I both know as Uncle Jesse from Full House. Uncle Jesse’s constant Greek pride, childish demeanor, and super attractive (well, at least back then) long, bad boy hair had me smitten. But alas, my family was from England and not Greece, and I grew up to marry a Scottish boy instead of a Greek one. But luckily for me, and you, there’s a little bit of Greece that I can keep with me forever… Greek Desserts! So here’s a list of our favorite Greek desserts that are so good, John Stamos would risk his perfectly sculpted abs to eat them.
This Easy Puff Pastry Baklava from High/Low, Food/Drink is incredibly easy to make and perfect for first time Greek bakers. It has all the essential Baklava flavors (honey, cinnamon, hazelnuts) without a lot of the work.
Wandering Chopsticks’ Baked Figs Stuffed with Walnuts, Wrapped in Prisciutto and Drizzled with Honey is a mouthful in so many ways. These treats offer a ton of tasty flavors and would make a perfect grown-up snack.
Greek Butter Cookies are one of those desserts that I could eat forever. Light and delicious, these Greek Butter Cookies from Whipped are the perfect cookie to pair with tea, coffee, or to eat by themselves.
Something about the pastry-like dough used in Greek treats just seems so right to me, and these Honey Walnut Greek Cookies are no exception. Crafted by Diva Entertains, the cookies are full of common household ingredients and are fairly quick to make, though nobody would know from the way they taste!
These Greek Honey Cookies, or Melomakarona as the recipe’s author Greek Gal calls them, are delicious and chewy. Dipped in honey, these cookies are sure to give you a sweet fix that could last for days.
