Easter Chick Cupcakes

Turn any cupcake, from homemade to store-bought, into these cute chick cupcakes in under 10 minutes!

Equipment

  • 1 12 count non-stick cupcake tin
  • 12 cupcake liners
  • 1 large Ziploc bag

Ingredients

  • 1 box 13.5 ounce box yellow cake mix
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 container yellow frosting 15oz vanilla frosting and yellow food coloring may be used as a substitute
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded sweetened coconut
  • 3-4 drops yellow food coloring
  • 3-4 candy orange slices
  • 24 mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350F.
  • Line the cupcake tin with liners.
  • In a large bowl, make cake batter according to the packages instructions.
  • Fill each cupcake liner about 2/3 full of batter.
  • Bake the cupcakes in the oven according to the packages instructions.
  • While cupcakes bake, in a large Ziploc bag add coconut and a few drops of yellow food coloring. Seal the bag and shake vigorously to combine. If coconut is not yellow enough add additional food coloring.

  • Remove the cupcakes from the oven and let cool. Once cooled, frost with yellow frosting.

  • Add yellow coconut to a plate and spread into an even layer. Press each frosted cupcake into the coconut to coat.

  • Using a paring knife, slice small triangles out of candy orange slices to create the beaks for the chicks.

  • Place an orange candy beak and two mini chocolate chips on each cupcake to create the chicks face.

Use store-bought or boxed cupcakes for a faster treat
Leave some air in the ziplock bag to give the coconut and dye room to move and coat.
