This easy pumpkin frosting is the perfect way to add a little pumpkin spice to your favorite cupcakes and fall desserts! Made with pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie spice, it’s a delicious pumpkin pie topping for the biggest pumpkin spice fans.

The Easiest Way to Add More Pumpkin Spice

I have to admit, I’m totally guilty of jumping on the pumpkin spice fad every year, and I’m kind of proud of it. ;)
There’s just something about that warm, sweet pumpkin flavor and cozy blend of fall spices that gets me every time.
Add that delicious pumpkin aroma and a soft, comforting bite, and you have the kind of treat that makes you want to sneak just one more piece. If you’re craving something cozy, sweet, and full of fall flavor, you’re going to want to try this one!
That’s exactly why I love this pumpkin frosting. It’s such a fun way to add even more pumpkin spice to cupcakes and other fall desserts, and it’s seriously delicious! It’s also a great way to impress your holiday guests.
One little tip before you frost your cupcakes: because the pumpkin puree makes the frosting a little looser, I like to put the mixing bowl in the fridge for a bit to help firm it up. It makes frosting the cupcakes much easier!
And once the cupcakes are frosted, I love sprinkling a little pumpkin pie spice right over the top. It’s such a simple finishing touch. :)

PUMPKIN PIE FROSTING RECIPE
Ingredients
- 2 sticks butter, room temperature
- 6-8 cups powdered sugar
- 1/3 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
- 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
Instructions
- In a stand mixer with paddle attachment, add butter and beat on high for 4 minutes, scraping the bowl once light and fluffy
- Add 6 cups powdered sugar, milk, puree, and spices to mixer and mix on low speed for 30 seconds, then increase speed to high until frosting is smooth
- Add rest of powdered sugar if needed to get desired consistency
- Due to the puree making the frosting a little loose, I put my mixing bowl in the fridge to firm up prior to frosting the cupcakes.
- Once I frosted cupcakes, I sprinkled some pumpkin pie spice on top :) ENJOY!
Notes
- The pumpkin puree makes the frosting a little soft, so chill it before frosting the cupcakes to help it firm up.
- Start with 6 cups of powdered sugar and add more if you want a thicker consistency.
