4th-of-july-cake

Recently, Sprinkles and Grins sent me a box filled with Cake Mate decorating supplies. I was especially excited about the new Cake Mate Glitter Icings.  Have you seen them yet?  They are incredible! These glitter icings offer up endless possibilities for great desserts.

In the spirit of the 4th of July holiday, I wanted to create something patriotic.  Glitter reminds me of fireworks on the 4th of July, and I wanted to incorporate that ever-popular tradition into a festive dessert.

Inspired by my love of cookie cutters, these cakes are the perfect 4th of July holiday dessert. They’re vibrant and festive, and they offer you the option of either serving them individually or stacking them.  No worries about taking a knife out to slice the cake this year. These are the perfect handheld treats to celebrate with at your 4th of July barbeque.
I am so excited to tell you about an upcoming project we have planned with Sprinkles and Grins. Stay tuned this week as we will be posting more desserts we created by using their products as well as a few more hints.

Patriotic Star Cut Out Cakes

You will need:
  • 1 box of Betty Crocker Vanilla Cake Mix
  • Cake Mate Red Glitter Icing
  • Cake Mate Blue Glitter Icing
  • Cake Mate White Bakery Icing
  • Star-shaped cookie cutter
  • Cake Mate Star Sprinkles

Directions:

  • Bake Betty Crocker Vanilla Cake Mix as directed on the back of the box.  Use a 13 x 8 sheet cake pan.
  • Once the cake cools, wrap the cake with saran wrap and place in the freezer for 3 hours for best results.  Doing this will make sure your cake will not fall apart when cutting it with a cookie cutter.
  • Using your cookie cutter, cut out star-shaped cakes.
  • Set each star cake on a piece of parchment paper.
  • Insert a star tip directly on your pouch of Cake Mate Glitter Icing or Bakery Icing.
  • Using a steady hand, guide your icing in the shape of a star.
  • Sprinkle Cake Mate Star Sprinkles on each cake.
  • You can serve these on a single stack, double stack, or triple stack.
