These pretzel bites are SO good! The combination of crunchy pretzels, melty Rolos, and red, white, and blue M&M’s creates the perfect flavor, and I can never seem to walk past the tray without grabbing one. They’re the perfect patriotic snack for kids, adults, and anyone who loves an easy treat.

Why These Patriotic Rolo Pretzels are a Must-Make

A woman with long, wavy blonde hair and a bright smile stands in a kitchen. She is wearing a yellow floral dress with puffed sleeves and white buttons. The background shows white subway tiles and cabinets.

I made these one afternoon after spotting a bag of pretzels, some Rolos, and red, white, and blue M&M’s in the pantry. It wasn’t part of the plan, but sometimes those are the recipes that end up being the most fun. I guess you could call them my accidental red white and blue Rolo pretzels moment.

The thing I love about this version is the Rolo in the middle. Once it softens, you get chocolate, caramel, and crunchy pretzel all in one bite. It’s such a good combo!

I brought a tray of these out during a family game night last summer, and before we even finished the first round, my husband had already gone back for seconds!

It’s funny because this is not a fancy recipe at all, but it still ends up being one of those things people talk about later like it took more effort than it did. I LOVE recipes like that!

The Best Pretzel Bites

This easy Rolo pretzel treat is REALLY addictive. Consider yourself warned. They’re not only fun to make and eat, but I LOVE how easily they can be altered to match other holidays and celebrations.

Think red and green for Christmas Rolo pretzel bites, pink and red for Valentine’s Day, and grab a bag of pastel M&M’s to make this perfect for Easter.

When you have a fun recipe like this, keep the fun going and treat yourself all year long anytime the craving hits!

Ingredients You Need

Can you believe that you just need 3 ingredients to make these festive snacks?

Butter Snap Pretzels – I like the square shape because it makes them uniform and holds the Rolo candy well.

Rolo Candy – Save time by buying them in a package at a store where they aren’t individually wrapped.

M&M’s red, white, and blue summer candy – A MUST for the patriotic colors.

How To Make 4th of July Pretzel Bites

1. Preheat and prep

Preheat your oven to 250°F and line a baking sheet with pretzel snaps in even rows. This part is quick, and I always like seeing them all lined up already.

2. Add the Rolos

Place one Rolo on top of each pretzel snap. It’s such a simple step, but it already starts looking like something good is happening.

3. Quick bake

Bake for about 2 1/2 minutes, just until the Rolos start to soften. You’re not trying to fully melt them, just get them warm and soft.

4. Add the M&M’s

Take the tray out of the oven and work quickly to press an M&M into the center of each softened Rolo. This part moves fast, but it’s also the fun part.

5. Let them set

Let the pretzels sit at room temperature until the Rolos harden again. Once they’re set, they’re ready to serve and snack on.

Tips for Red White and Blue Rolo Pretzels

🩷If you don’t have square pretzels, you can use other types as well. As long as you get the Rolo to stick in the middle to hold the M&M, you’re good to go!

🩷Don’t have Rolos? You can make another variation using a Hershey kiss. Place the salty pretzels on a cookie sheet, add a Hershey Kiss to the middle of the pretzel, then follow the instructions as written on the recipe card below.

🩷If you want to have fun and change things up, you can always put other simple ingredients on top of the traditional pretzel shape. Adding white chocolate, chocolate candies, chocolate chips, pecans, or any other taste or flavor that you want. You can’t go wrong making this salty treat!

Storage Tips for Rolo Pretzel Bites

To keep them crunchy and delicious, storage matters:

🩷Any pretzel treat leftovers need to be stored in an airtight container. They can be kept at room temperature, making them easy for a quick grab and snack later! If you’re worried about them making a mess when stored, put a sheet of wax paper between the layers if you can’t store them all in a single layer.
