Easy & Cute Valentine’s Day Dessert

You only need four ingredients to make these Love Bug Oreo Cookies! It’s just Oreo cookies dipped in candy melts, candy eyes, and sprinkles! That’s it. Nothing crazy complicated, no stress required.

Now this is an easy Valentine’s dessert that’s cuter than a bug’s ear, which honestly feels very on theme, if you ask me! ;)

I’ve Made Hundreds of Kid-Friendly Desserts, and Ladybug Oreos are a Fave

Let me tell you, over the years I’ve made hundreds of kid-friendly desserts, and I’m always looking for treats that feel special without being complicated. I even shared Valentine’s Day treats for kids in this month’s issue of Highlights Magazine…

And yet, I won’t hesitate to say these adorable Valentine ladybug Oreos are truly one of the cutest Valentine’s Day desserts I’ve ever made.

We’re Talking ONLY 4 Ingredients

That’s my kind of dessert. No baking. No special tools. No pressure to be perfect.

Even if your candy melts don’t set flawlessly, the sprinkles hide everything. Just saying… if you’re looking for an easy dessert to make with kids or for kids, Ladybugs Oreos are IT!

Ingredients to Make Ladybug Oreos

Here’s everything you need to make these Ladybug Oreo Cookies here + listed below!

Oreo Cookies (12): These are the base of your ladybug cookies.

Red or Pink Candy Melts (1 1/2 cups): Used to coat the Oreos and create the ladybug color. I only used red, but I LOVE how these ladybug Oreos look with pink too!

Valentine’s Day Sprinkles: To decorate your ladybug cookies with to make them festive and fun for Valentine’s day!

Candy Eyes (24): Give each Oreo its ladybug face.

A Valentine’s Dessert Kids Will Actually Get Excited About

I made these ladybug Oreos early for Valentine’s Day and told myself I’d save them. That lasted about five minutes. I gave one to each kid, and the reaction was instant. Full-on excitement!

Trust me when I tell you, kids of all ages will LOVE how cute this Valentine’s Day dessert is!

And because I am always driven by the level of cuteness and wow-factor, these are exactly the kind of Valentine cookies for kids I love making again and again.

How to make Ladybug Oreos for Valentine’s Day

A hand dips a chocolate sandwich cookie into a bowl of red melted chocolate. Nearby are a plate of cookies, a bowl of sprinkles, and a heart-shaped tray, all set on a white surface.

Step 1: Melt the Red Candy Melts

Microwave the red candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring between each. Stop heating just before fully melted and let the residual heat finish the job to avoid overheating and hardening.

A hand in a pink sweater dips a cookie halfway into a bowl of red melted chocolate, with a heart-shaped plate and bowls of cookies and sprinkles in the background.

Step 2: Dip Each Oreo 2/3 of the Way

Dip each Oreo about 2/3 of the way and lightly scrape the bottom edge on the side of the bowl before setting on parchment paper.

A person sprinkles red and white sprinkles onto half-dipped red chocolate Oreo cookies arranged on parchment paper, with bowls of sprinkles and cookies nearby on a wooden board.

Step 3: Add Valentine’s Day Sprinkles

Before the candy melts harden, sprinkle each Oreo with your favorite Valentine’s Day sprinkles. I used heart sprinkles and non-pareils (aka “the little circle sprinkles”) for DOUBLE the fun!

Short on time? Pop the tray in the fridge for a few minutes to help the chocolate set faster.

Step 4: Add the Candy Eyes

Using a toothpick or wooden skewer, dot a small amount of melted candy onto the backs of the candy eyes, then press them onto each Oreo.

Tip

If you’re making a larger batch of ladybug cookies or making them with kids, I recommend grabbing a small container of decorator’s icing in a tube from the grocery store. It’s even easier to work with, and you won’t have to race against the candy melts hardening, which happens fast.

Trust me, I’ve worked with candy melts a lot (if you have my cookbook, you know)! I’ve learned the hard way, LOL!

How to Store Ladybug Oreo Cookies

Once your candy melts are fully set, store your Ladybug Oreo cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. You can also refrigerate them to keep the coating firm.
