My Favorite Pumpkin Frosting I Made on Local News

This pumpkin frosting is just the best of both worlds for all my fall-obsessed dessert lovers!

I even had the chance to make this pumpkin frosting on local news several years back!

I absolutely LOVE when pumpkin spice season hits… it feels like a holiday!

That’s exactly why I love this pumpkin frosting. It tastes absolutely amazing on both vanilla and pumpkin cupcakes, and it’s seriously delicious!

This pumpkin frosting is perfect to top your cupcakes with for a delicious Thanksgiving, Fall or Halloween dessert!

One little tip before you frost your cupcakes: because the pumpkin puree makes the frosting a little looser, I like to put the mixing bowl in the fridge for a bit to help firm it up. It makes frosting the cupcakes much easier!

And once the cupcakes are frosted, I love sprinkling a little pumpkin pie spice right over the top. It’s such a simple finishing touch.

Ingredients

  • 2 sticks butter, room temperature
  • 6-8 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

Instructions

  • Add the room-temperature butter to a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Beat on high for about 4 minutes, scraping down the bowl as needed, until light and fluffy.
  • Add 6 cups powdered sugar, milk, pumpkin puree, and pumpkin pie spice. Mix on low for 30 seconds, then increase the speed and beat until smooth.
  • Add additional powdered sugar as needed until the frosting reaches your desired consistency.
  • Chill the frosting until firm enough to pipe or spread onto completely cooled cupcakes or cake.
  • Frost as desired and sprinkle with additional pumpkin pie spice, if desired.

Notes

  • Start with 6 cups of powdered sugar and add more as needed for a thicker frosting.
  • Because pumpkin puree adds moisture, chill the frosting before piping if it feels too soft.
