10-Minute Easter Chick Cupcakes
These adorable chick cupcakes, a top-tier Easter treat, are surprisingly simple to make using your preferred cupcake recipe or even store-bought options.

Don’t worry, I got you covered! At the end of this post, you’ll find a full recipe with ingredients and step-by-step instructions for making Easter Chick Cupcakes, and a video too!
One of My Favorite Easter Recipes
These chick cupcakes are the cutest Easter idea on my blog, ranking a 10 on the cute scale (Bunny Butt Funfetti Dip excluded). Not only were these Easter treats incredibly easy to make, but they’re also just as cute!
When Claire came home from school and saw these Easter Cupcakes displayed on a cake stand next to my birds nest cookie cups, she squealed with joy! It’s the little things like this that make me LOVE sharing holiday recipes!
Cupcake Choices: Homemade, Box, or Store-Bought
You can use your favorite cupcake recipe, or a box mix, or even ask your grocery store for plain or pre-frosted cupcakes to easily create this dessert hack! Let me tell you, I used to work at Nugget Market bakery nearly 20 years ago, and people came in all the time ordering plain cupcakes. It’s a whole thing, so don’t be shy about asking your grocery store bakery to make that cupcake customization for you.
One Bag, One Color: Quick Coconut Dyeing for Cupcakes
Just like we dyed the green grass on my Easter Dirt Cake, we’ll dye the yellow coconut the same exact way! This it what adds the texture to your chick cupcakes. It’s literally just yellow gel food coloring, shredded coconut, added to a ziplock bag, keeping the air inside so the coconut can move around, and then shake it all up! Who knew coconut could be the same vibrant yellow color as Big Bird! ;)
Decorating Your Easter Cupcakes
Next, you’re going to add your frosting on top of your cupcakes and gently roll the tops of each cupcake on the coconut so it sticks to the frosting.
Use chocolate chips for the eyes. Press them into the cupcake; the pointed tops will secure them to the frosting.
Cut an orange slice candy, and using the sticky side, place it on the cupcake. The sticky interior is sticky enough to secure it to the shredded coconut cupcake.
And that’s it! Your adorable chick cupcakes are complete. It’s the little things, like these cheerful Easter cupcakes, that make holidays truly special.
Substitution Ideas for the Chick’s Beak
For precise beaks, consider using small, sharp kitchen scissors to trim the orange candy into perfect triangles to create a much cleaner look. You can also use small pieces of colored fondant, this will allow for a wider range of colors, and shapes.
You could totally use an alternative like orange Starburst or even half of a Reese’s Pieces, like I did for my Easter Chick Pretzels, but you would need to add a dab of frosting to make sure it adheres to the coconut.
Best Way to Store Chick Cupcakes
To store your chick cupcakes, place them in an airtight container. They’ll keep at room temperature for 1-2 days, or in the refrigerator for 3-5 days. For best results, allow refrigerated cupcakes to come to room temperature before serving.
