Easy Three Ingredient Easter Dessert

I love how easy it is to take store-bought cookies, bake them in muffin tin cookies, and fill them with a sweet topping that surprises and excites everyone! You know, like that “why didn’t I think of that Easter dessert idea” moment?!

Only Takes Minutes to Make

These cookie cups only take minutes to bake and just a few more to decorate, making them an easy Easter treat idea!

Believe it or not, some people even call this dessert ‘Easter Basket Cookie Cups‘, but let’s be real, where’s the handle? I wasn’t about to get into that level of crafting, so ‘nests’ it is!

Now, I’m no stranger to cookie cups (remember my hot cocoa cookie cups that were featured in Martha Stewart Living Magazine and strawberry cookie cups?). They are such a fun mini-dessert idea! I wanted to give my chocolate Easter Bird’s Nest Cookies a fresh twist, something a little more vibrant and… grassy! And with egg prices soaring, can we just switch to candy eggs for now?! Just kidding!

Kid-Friendly & Made in Minutes

I surprised my daughter, Claire, with a few Easter cookie cups and my Easter Chick cupcakes displayed on a cake stand and my new Easter decorations when she got home from school the other day. She’s only nine years old and she thought they were the cutest Easter desserts. You should have heard her!

With such easy dessert hacks, I was able to make both of these Easter desserts in a single morning!

These easy Easter treats begin by baking your cookie cups – pre-made sugar cookie dough in muffin tins, creating cup shapes by pressing a shot glass into the warm cookies immediately after baking. Once cooled, the cookie cups are filled with vibrant green frosting, applied with a star-shaped nozzle for a festive touch. Finally, each frosted cup is adorned with three Cadbury mini chocolate eggs, completing the sweet and colorful dessert. This is a very simple way to make Easter Treats.

Ingredient Substitutions

  1. Cookie Dough: You can use any store-bought cookie dough your heart desires. Whether it’s peanutbutter, chocolate chip or macadamia nut. Just keep an open mind that it will change the color of your cookie cup.
  2. Frosting: I used canned store bought frosting with the attachable tips in the spirit of simplicity but you can either make homemade frosting or use canned frosting and put it in a piping bag with a similar star tip.
  3. Candy Eggs: There are so many household brands you will recognize that make candy eggs, especially around Easter time. Whoppers: They’re version of Robin Eggs are malted milk balls covered in a candy shell. Hershey’s: They make classic milk chocolate eggs and even creamy versions. Cadbury: They’re notorious for their Cadbury Creme Eggs (and best Easter commercials), but they also make even smaller chocolate eggs. Brach’s: Classic jelly bird eggs Lindt: Chocolate truffle eggs like their Lindor eggs.
  • Airtight Container: The best way to store your Easter Cookie Cups is in an airtight container. This prevents the cookies from becoming stale and the frosting from drying out.
  • Room Temperature: These Easter treats are best stored at room temperature. Refrigerating them can cause the cookies to harden and the frosting to become too firm, affecting the texture.
  • Layering: If you need to stack your Easter Cookie Cups, place parchment paper or wax paper between each layer to prevent sticking. Also, store them in a single layer to avoid damaging the frosting or breaking the cookies.
  • Duration: Easter Bird’s Nest Cookie Cups are best consumed within a few days for optimal freshness. You can even make these before Easter to get a head start on your holiday baking!
