Third Time’s a Charm?

This is my third recipe, creating different ways to make bird nest Easter desserts fun! So far, I’ve made Easter Bird’s Nest Cookies and even Bird Nest Nest Cookie Cups! You’ve come to the right place for a crazy easy Easter dessert idea!

My Easter cupcakes hack went viral on my TikTok and Instagram because it shocked people on how it’s sooo easy to make!

I mean, you only need 3 ingredients to make these Easter cupcakes that look just like whimsical bird nests. No baking required!

Ingredients for Easter Birds Nest Cupcakes:

  • Grab Some Cupcakes: Seriously, this is where the “easy” really shines. Swing by your favorite grocery store bakery and pick up a pack of plain (or even frosted) cupcakes – any flavor you like! Chocolate, vanilla, even those fun confetti ones – they all work perfectly for these easter cupcake ideas. You can also use a box mix or your favorite cupcake recipe if you prefer.
  • Pink Cotton Candy: Next up, you’ll need some pink cotton candy. This is the key to making these little bird nest cupcakes. Just grab a bag from the store – it’s usually pretty easy to find around this time of year.
  • Candy Eggs: And finally, the finishing touch: candy eggs! Classic Cadbury Mini eggs are always a hit, but if you’re looking for a slightly different color, those pastel-colored Jordan almonds are absolutely gorgeous and give a more sophisticated feel to your easter desserts.

How to Make Easter Bird Nest Cupcakes:

Take a little bit of that fluffy pink cotton candy and gently shape it with your hands into a small, round bird nest. You’ll be surprised how easy it is to mold! It’s kind of fun – you can even get the kids involved in making these easy easter desserts!

Next, gently place a cotton candy bird nest on each cupcake and nestle a few candy eggs in the center. Don’t overload your bird’s nest – a few eggs keep the nests light and prevent them from breaking through.

Does Cotton Candy Melt in Heat?

Cotton candy doesn’t love heat! Heat and cotton candy are basically like Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively… they just do NOT get along! Okay, I might delete that sentence later! 🫣😇

But in all seriousness, Yes, cotton candy does melt in heat and the effects are quite dramatic. Heat and humidity cause cotton candy to lose its volume, often looking like it’s shrinking or even disappearing. It also becomes very sticky. To prevent this, always store cotton candy in a cool, dry location. This is important to remember, especially for these Easter cupcakes!

Will Cotton Candy Stick to Plain Cupcakes Without Frosting?

The reason I don’t use frosting is because of the moisture absorption that happens with cotton candy. The frosting will be drawn to the cotton candy’s sugar and will make the cotton candy dissolve and deflate.

Because cupcakes already have some moisture, the cotton candy will slightly adhere to the cupcakes. When you add those 3-4 candy eggs in the center of the cotton candy bird’s nest, it will add some weight, which will anchor the cotton candy bird’s nest to the cupcakes.

Best Time to Add Cotton Candy to Cupcakes

For the best-looking bird nests, assemble these Easter cupcakes right before you’re ready to serve them.

To save time, you can also shape all the cotton candy birds’ nests prior so they’re ready to go when placing them on top of each cupcake. Just make sure to store cotton candy nests in a sealed, airtight container in a cool, dry place to prevent dissolving and deflation.

And that’s it! Seriously! Talk about an Easter dessert idea that comes together in minutes that is almost too easy! These Cotton Candy Birds Nest Cupcakes are a guaranteed hit with the kids (and let’s be honest, the adults too!).

They’re perfect for Easter brunch, a classroom treat, or just a fun little something to make Easter feel extra special without adding any extra stress to your already packed schedule. These are truly one of the easiest easter dessert ideas you can find!

Notes

When adding candy eggs, don’t overload your bird’s nest – about 3-4 eggs keep the nests light and prevent them from breaking through the cotton candy barrier.
Keep your cotton candy out of heat and humidity, as it will make cotton candy shrink or even disappear as it dissolves and becomes sticky, losing its fluffy texture.
For the best-looking cotton candy bird nests on your Easter cupcakes, assemble these adorable Easter desserts right before you’re ready to serve them.
