If you’re planning a Halloween party or just want to surprise your family with a festive treat, this giant Halloween spider cookie is so much fun to make—and even more fun to eat! It’s spooky, sweet, and SO easy to make, with just 5 ingredients and one simple store-bought shortcut! Think of it as part dessert, part table centerpiece, and totally perfect for October.
Perfect Dessert for a Halloween Party!
As a mom of two who’s planned countless holiday parties (and tested more than my fair share of dessert recipes), I’ve learned that the best Halloween treats are the ones that bring big wow-factor without taking all day in the kitchen. This giant cookie is just that! You can pull it together in under an hour, and the decorating is simple enough that the whole family can join in.
Why We Love This Giant Spider Cookie
This recipe is ideal for Halloween classroom parties, movie nights, or just a fun after-dinner surprise during spooky season. It starts with store-bought cookie dough (yes, please!), gets topped with melty vanilla frosting, and finishes with a spiderweb design that’s seriously cute. Plus, it chills in the fridge so it’s nice and set when it’s time to slice and serve.
You can even turn this into a decorating station at your Halloween party. Just bake the base ahead of time and let guests help with the web and toppings!
Ingredients
You only need five ingredients to bring this giant cookie to life:
1 plastic spider (for the full creepy-crawly effect!)
2 (30 oz) tubes chocolate chip cookie dough
2 (16 oz) containers vanilla frosting
Halloween sprinkles
Black decorating icing
1 plastic spider (for the full creepy-crawly effect!)
How to Make Spider Web Cookie
Let’s get baking! Start by preheating your oven to 350°F. While that’s warming up, press your cookie dough into a 16-inch round pan, making sure to spread it evenly all the way to the edges. It might look a little thin, but don’t worry—it’ll puff up just the right amount in the oven.
Bake the cookie for 12 to 13 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. You want that perfect combo of crispy on the outside and soft and chewy in the center. Once it’s done, let it cool slightly before moving on to the frosting.
Now for the fun part—frosting! Remove the foil from the tub (don’t skip this part!) and microwave it in 20-second intervals, stirring in between until it’s smooth and pourable. Carefully pour the warm frosting over the cookie and spread it into an even layer.
Time to decorate! Add Halloween sprinkles around the edge of the cookie for a festive pop of color. Then, using black decorating icing or gel, pipe a spiral shape starting from the center of the cookie and working your way out. Grab a toothpick or wooden skewer and gently drag lines from the center outward to create a spider web effect—it’s surprisingly easy and looks amazing.
Finish it off by placing a plastic spider right in the middle of the web for the ultimate creepy-cute touch.
To help the frosting set and make slicing easier, pop the giant cookie into the fridge or freezer for 30 minutes to an hour before serving. Then slice, serve, and watch it disappear!
