  • No baking required—just layer and serve
  • Packed with flavor thanks to taco-seasoned beans and fresh toppings
  • Easily customizable for picky eaters or allergies

Ingredients You’ll Need

Here’s what goes into this easy Halloween appetizer:

  • Refried beans – The base of the dip, creamy and hearty. You’ll need about 3 cans.
  • Taco seasoning – Adds flavor and a little kick. Use store-bought or homemade!
  • Guacamole – Store-bought or homemade works here.
  • Sour cream – For the spooky spider web effect.
  • Tomato – Adds a pop of color and freshness.
  • Shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese – For that classic cheesy layer.
  • Sliced black olives – Optional, but they totally fit the Halloween look.
  • Green onions – Adds color and a mild onion flavor.
  • Tortilla chips – Warm them up for the best dipping experience!

How to Make Spiderweb Bean Dip

Start by mixing your refried beans and taco seasoning in a medium bowl until everything’s well combined. This gives your base a boost of flavor and a little taco-style flair.

Spread the seasoned beans in an even layer along the bottom of a 9-inch pie dish. Try to get it as smooth as possible—it’ll make the next layer look even better.

Hands mixing refried beans and taco seasoning in a bowl on a wooden board. Nearby are bowls with shredded cheese, chopped tomatoes, sliced black olives, and chopped green onions. A tray of tortilla chips is beside them on a festive orange plate.
A glass pie dish filled with a layer of refried beans is placed on a wooden surface. Surrounding it are bowls with chopped green onions, shredded cheese, diced tomatoes, and a sliced orange item, possibly bell pepper. A hand holds the dish.

Next up is the guacamole! Gently spread it right over the beans, creating a second layer. You’ll want to take your time here so the guac doesn’t mix into the beans too much—an offset spatula or the back of a spoon works great.

Now for the fun part: the spider web! Add sour cream to a squeeze bottle, piping bag, or even a zip-top bag with the corner snipped off. Pipe two straight lines to create a cross, then divide each section two more times until you have 16 sections total. To complete the web, pipe two small curved lines in each section—one near the center and one closer to the edge. It’s easier than it sounds and turns out so cute!

A glass dish filled with guacamole stands on a wooden board. Nearby bowls hold shredded cheese, chopped tomatoes, and sliced green onions. A Halloween-themed napkin featuring jack-o-lanterns is placed beside the setup.
A hand decorates guacamole in a glass dish with a sour cream spiderweb pattern. Surrounding the dish are bowls of shredded cheese, chopped green onions, and diced tomatoes.
A round platter of guacamole features a spiderweb design made from sour cream. The dip is bordered by chopped tomatoes, and a small bowl of chopped green onions is in the background, all placed on a wooden surface.
A layered dip in a round dish features a top layer of guacamole decorated with a sour cream spiderweb design. The edges are garnished with shredded cheese and diced tomatoes. A small bowl of chopped green onions is nearby on a wooden board.

Finish things off by sprinkling your toppings—diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, black olives, and green onions—around the outer edge of the dip. Then, for that spooky Halloween flair, place a little plastic spider right in the center of the web. (Just make sure everyone knows it’s not edible!)

Tips

Don’t forget the spider! A little plastic spider adds the perfect spooky touch. Just make sure it’s clean—and remind guests it’s not edible!

Use room temperature sour cream for easy piping. Cold sour cream is harder to pipe and can break. Let it sit out for 10–15 minutes or give it a quick stir to soften before adding it to your piping bag or squeeze bottle.

Smooth each layer evenly. Use the back of a spoon or an offset spatula to smooth the refried beans and guacamole. This gives you a clean surface for your spider web to really pop!

Make it ahead (but wait to decorate!) You can layer the beans and guacamole a few hours in advance and refrigerate. Just add the sour cream web and toppings right before serving for the freshest look.

A person with long hair, wearing a Halloween-themed sweater, holds a festive pie with a spider web design. The kitchen is decorated with black bats and spider webs. Orange plates with Jack-o-lantern designs are on the counter nearby.

Make It Your Own

Want to switch things up? Here are some easy variations:

  • Add a layer of salsa or pico de gallo between the beans and guacamole.
  • Top with jalapeños for a spicy kick.
  • Use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream for a lighter option.
  • Make it mini! Layer the dip in small plastic cups for individual servings.

A Hauntingly Good Halloween Dip

This Halloween Spider Web Bean Dip is the kind of appetizer that looks impressive but takes barely any effort—just the way we like it. Whether you’re hosting a party or just want something festive to snack on with the kids, this spooky dip totally delivers.
